Fifty years is indeed a long time to be in business, especially when the home building industry in the Chicagoland market took such a beating over the past few years. While the firm has had their share of belt-tightening, the Airhart team remained true to their founding principles.

When Airhart first started building homes in the '60s and '70s, contemporary homes with cedar mansard roofs that seemed to grow organically from the landscape intrigued the buying public. The exciting open floor plans with tall spaces closed the deal. During the 1980’s, the company began building Scandinavian contemporary-style homes. The most popular of these was a multi-level home known as the “Nordic,” with geometric shapes and angled cedar siding. However this spring, four new Modern designs will be introduced. The three and four bedroom homes ranging from 1900 to 2600 square feet will reflect the exciting Mid-century modern and International styles that are so distinctive with floor plans that relate to the modern family.

According to founder Mac Airhart, “Our designs have always focused on the human experience. Views are extremely important. Inside a home you want an expansive view, not a restricted one. Excited anticipation is the feeling we hope our customers experience. We bring the outdoors inside with careful placement of windows and doors.”
