Harkiss Designs Uses Spring Trunk Show 2014 to Introduce Handcrafted Humanitarian Accessories Line

Humane Accessories Company Holds Charitable Spring Sale Event in New York City

New York, NY, April 03, 2014 --(PR.com)-- Exclusive women’s handcrafted accessories collection, Harkiss Designs (http://harkissdesigns.com), recently held a Spring Trunk Show event to introduce the public to the unique handmade designs by East African artisans, as well as promote the message of empowering East African women one item at a time. The event took place on Thursday, March 27, 2014 from 5 PM to 9 PM at 205 East 85th Street, New York, NY. Harriet Zaffoni, founder of Harkiss Designs, has personally made it her mission to create an atmosphere where East African men and women can easily support themselves and their families through their skilled craftwork. All pieces in the collection use natural, sustainable, and locally sourced materials such as fabric woven from the kukui nut, cow horn and much more. With an urban woman in mind behind the designs, women can experience a brand new style of East Africa fashion to incorporate in their modern style.

“I believe in providing hope and opportunity to those who are in need,” Harriett Zaffoni, Owner of Harkiss Designs begins. “Harkiss Designs gives women a voice, as well as the freedom to be sole providers for their families. This company was developed with a unique vision in mind, and I was very elated to see it come to life through the Spring Trunk Show. I want to make every single one of the products unique and special to whoever purchases it, as well as spreading the message of compassion.”

Gift bag sponsors for the event included Pop Chips, Vita Coco, Aveda, and Quick Candles. Harkiss Designs came to life in 2011 when fellow New Yorker of Ugandan decent, Harriet Zaffoni, felt inspired to work with women and design accessories influenced by East African fashion. Every item has its own story starting with the narrative of its color, shape, style, texture and choice of material, etc. The company has opened a new trade route through which one can enjoy the beautiful and unique designs of East Africa, while East African women benefit from a larger marketplace for their hand crafted products. Harkiss Designs has worked closely with a community of craft co-ops in East Africa in countries such as; Uganda, Kenya and Rwanda; furthermore, providing them with employment and opportunity. A percentage of all sales also go directly to the charity organization of choice, “Lend a Hand Uganda”; which provides care services, education, healthcare, donations, and other aid to orphans and vulnerable children in Uganda.
