Tick the Boxes for Quality and Design with the New Detectable Pen from Detectamet

The new rugged HD Pen from Detectamet is metal and X-ray detectable. It is designed for use in all environments including wet and greasy work areas. The clever design incorporates better grip and a more reliable repetitive retraction system. The range offers a choice of three designs, eight colour variations for the casings and a choice of four ink colours.

York, United Kingdom, May 29, 2014 --(PR.com)-- To mark the company’s tenth anniversary Detectamet has applied its years of experience in meeting the needs of the food industry for detectable plastic products by designing and developing its new HD Pen. This rugged heavy duty pen has been launched this week and CEO Sean Smith says, “We have poured all our knowledge and expertise into getting this pen ready and the customers’ responses to trial samples has been tremendous. Once they got hold of it they wanted to keep it.”

The new retractable HD Pen sits well in the hand with a natural balance and feel. Its thoughtful design is especially clever in so many areas. For use in wet and greasy work areas it has a matt, slightly textured finish which is none-the-less easy to clean. The natural grip area has a shaped indentation that has been formed with ridges. This not only reduces the possibility of the pen slipping back through the fingers but it also reduces any tendency for it to rotate especially when the hands are wet.

The rugged construction means it is resilient and will not break under stress. This long life pen will easily outlive a writing endurance of over 6.2miles of ink and the refill installation system has been designed to make it easy to replace the cartridge.

Detectamet is the world’s biggest manufacturer of detectable products and Sean explained, “One of the reasons our HD Pen was approved by the customers was that a new mechanism makes it easy to press and lock the nib for writing, and there is a clean release catch for retracting the nib. We needed a reliable system,” Sean explained, “and in my experience it had to be the tried and tested stainless steel return spring that would give the continuous performance the users needed.”

The pen is now being produced in volume in the UK. The first casings and mechanisms have been moulded in Detectamet’s double detectable blue polymer so pieces can be easily seen and easily identified by metal detection and X-ray systems. The complete eight colour range is now being made.

The full Detectamet choice of inks is available so customers can select the Standard refill, the Fine Point refill, the Pressurised refill, or the Gel Ink refill systems. This enables customers to choose the right ink type for their working environment and black blue red and green ink colours can be specified.\
“We are ready with a choice of three styles.” Sean explained “The traditional design with a pocket clip has a sturdy attachment point for a lanyard, and there is an alternative with no clip but with a lanyard point.”

As Sean showed the third option with no clip or attachment point he demonstrated how the simple design feature of an oval cross section reduced the risk of the pen rolling off a flat surface.

The HD Pen benefits from Detectamet’s ten years’ experience of meeting the needs of the Food Industry for detectable plastic products. The company holds up-to-date ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certificates, and the pen plastics conform to the EU and the US FDA requirements for safe contact with food.

Sean said “Our international distributors have already placed substantial orders for the HD Pen which proves how much our British made pens are valued around the world for their well-made quality.”
