Lined Valve Company Optimistic About New Buy America Provision

New “Buy America provision” added to the bill that funds water & waste water infrastructure projects now requires CWSRLF & DWSRLF assistance recipients to “use iron and steel products that are produced in the USA for projects for the construction, alteration, maintenance, or repair of a public water system or treatment works”. EPA guidance document mentions valves made of iron & steel. Lined Valve Company has products that will comply with this Buy America provision.

Woodland, WA, June 03, 2014 --(PR.com)-- Lined Valve Company, an American owned and run small business, has for almost 20 years been successfully designing and manufacturing knife gate valves for a diverse range of industrial and municipal applications. Over the past fifteen years there has been increasing competition from overseas, especially from companies in China, offering similar but less robust products. With a new funding bill recently passed by the Environment Protection Agency (EPA), this small business has a large opportunity.

The US Congress has added a new “Buy America provision” to the bill that funds water and waste water infrastructure projects. Specifically it requires Clean Water State Revolving Loan Fund and Drinking Water State Revolving Loan Fund assistance recipients to “use iron and steel products that are produced in the United States for projects for the construction, alteration, maintenance, or repair of a public water system or treatment works”. The EPA guidance document specifically mentions valves made of iron and steel. Lined Valve Company has products that will comply with this Buy America provision.

Owner and President Jeff Bowman of Lined Valve Company commented,
“We are optimistic that this Buy America provision will be beneficial for our nationwide distributor network and our team here in Woodland, WA. We are specialists in this field of gate valves and one of only a few companies left in the US able to comply with manufacturing valves of USA made of steel. We look forward to an increasing number of inquiries into our custom made knife gate valves.”

The Use of American Iron and Steel Under Section 436 of the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2014 (H.R. 3547) requires that none of the funds made available for projects funded by the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund (DWSRF) for Federal Fiscal Year 2014 shall be used for the construction, alteration, maintenance, or repair of a public water system or treatment works unless all of the iron and steel products and construction material used in the project are produced in the United States. In order to comply with this provision, all financial assistance agreements for construction, alteration, maintenance, or repair of a public water system under DWSRF, shall contain a provision requiring the application of Buy American requirements.

Lined Valve Company designs and fabricates "Buy America" compliant custom knife gate valves, shipping out of their factory locations in Washington and Florida. Their products range in size from 2” to 96” and above, are found throughout America and across the world, working under water, down mine shafts, in coal plants, dry docks, pulp and paper mills, pumping stations, water treatment plants and hydropower plants. They process food, handle chemicals and preserve fine wines in vats.
