Fitchburg Technology Campus Data Center Offers Small Businesses Top-Tier IT

$40 Million Data Center Gives Growing Companies Bandwidth Boost

Fitchburg, WI, November 08, 2007 --(PR.com)-- While Google, AT&T and other technology powerhouses have been location-shopping in the Midwest for data center build sites, Fitchburg Technology Campus (www.fitchburgtech.com) has been quietly developing its own mission critical command. For more than two years Fitchburg Technology Campus, future resident CDW/Berbee, and data center developer TEAM Technologies have been working with the City of Fitchburg and MG&E to bring the power and utility capability needed to realize the project which recently broke ground.

“A data center is power,” says Mark Kittrell, CEO of TEAM Technologies. “Just as a hotel needs an interstate, a data center needs ‘info’-structure. This structure of direct fiber connection and increased power reliability will build on the attraction of the Fitchburg Technology Campus to technology-based businesses.”

Beyond the financial reaches of upstarts, the 60,000 square-foot data center will provide services to the Fitchburg Technology Campus’s predominantly growing high-tech and biotech companies allowing them to compete at a much higher level. Office space within the neighboring CDW/Berbee building will allow added convenience for monitoring of the critical information stored in the data center.

“A data center can be seen as the brain of a company,” said Kittrell. “If systems fail from such threats as an earthquake or terrorist attack, businesses are no longer able to communicate, perceive, remember and create. The business flat-lines. The Fitchburg Technology Campus data center will protect against disasters with 99.9999% uptime.”

As evident by Google’s recent Iowa site selection, the Midwest offers low risk of natural or man-made threats. The greater-Madison area is further ideally situated for a data center being within an easy drive to larger cities like Milwaukee, Minneapolis, and Chicago. As a university town, the large, college-educated population will help provide the pool needed from which to draw staff says Phil LaForge, director of CDW/Berbee's hosting and managed services practice. "It's hard enough to get IT people. But it's even tougher to have people 24/7.”

Campus businesses are familiar with the collaborative nature of the Fitchburg Technology Campus that the data center folds into. The environment has been rich for networking opportunities, business mentoring, and shared services and equipment.

“Fitchburg Technology Campus has gained a terrific momentum, having sold all but four lots,” stated Karyl Lynn Bruckner, the project manager of Avante Properties and the Fitchburg Technology Campus. “We expect the next swell of activity to be in the leasing of space within our newly completed buildings, including IT-ready space within the data center’s neighboring office building.”
