61st Annual Neal Awards to Celebrate B2B Journalism’s Best & Brightest – March 27 in NYC

New York, NY, February 05, 2015 --(PR.com)-- The Association of Business Information & Media Companies (ABM), a division of the Software & Information Industry Association (SIIA), the principal trade association for the software and digital content industries, today announced finalists for the 61st Jesse H. Neal Awards – the premier awards program honoring B2B journalism. Winners will be announced during a special awards ceremony held March 27 at Pier 60 in New York City.

Finalists for the Neal Awards include 204 journalists and their media brands. Companies with the most finalists are Hanley Wood; Crain Communications; and Dodge Data and Analytics.

This year's awards recognize a range of traditional categories, including best news coverage, commentary, and technical content, as well as digital platforms, including best blog, mobile app, social media and webcast. Neal Awards finalists represent the changing face of B2B media, recognizing new all-digital products and services, and companies ranging from revenues of more than $7 million to those under $3 million. A total of 60 winners will be announced, culminating in the Grand Neal Award, which honors the most outstanding entry from among the winners in all categories.

The Neal Awards will also honor the recipients of four special recognition awards, including the prestigious Tim White Award for editorial integrity; the Marianne Dekker Mattera Award for dedicated mentoring; the G.D. Crain Award for Distinguished Editorial Career; and the McAllister Editorial Fellowship, which is given to an editor who will teach journalism at Northwestern University’s prestigious Medill School of Journalism.

Mike Marchesano, Managing Director of ABM and the SIIA Content & Information Services Division (CISD), says of this year’s entries, “The high quality of journalism reflected in this year’s finalists illustrates the power of insightful reporting and thoughtful analysis. This caliber of journalistic excellence makes sense of many of our most pressing business challenges and guides industry leaders to higher levels of effectiveness."

Marchesano further notes, "From broad-scale medical and government issues to the needs of single business owners and the first defenders of our smaller towns, B2B editors bring us the compelling narratives of everyday heroes and the leaders of our most influential institutions. We congratulate all the finalists for their impressive work and as role models for the next generation of business editors and reporters.”

A panel of 15 judges reviewed the 204 finalists to select the winners in 56 editorial categories. Trevor Butterworth, Head Judge of the Neal Awards Selection Committee and Director, Sense about Science USA and Editor, STATS.org says, “This was a year of bold reporting for Neal Awards entrants, who demonstrated that, when the national spotlight shone on their turf, they can report as superbly as any national media."

Also according to Butterworth, "It was a Neal Award that illustrated how important niche reporting really is; that the trials and traumas of individual lives speak to us all; and that specialized B2B Media can speak with social resonance."
