Geneva, Switzerland, February 14, 2015 --(PR.com)-- SGS has been formally registered as an EU Timber Regulation (995/2010) Monitoring Organization by the European Commission. As a registered Monitoring Organization, SGS is able to provide EU operators – those who place timber and timber products on the EU market for the first time – and traders with operational due diligence systems, something that is obliged to implement under this regulation.

Operator Obligations Under the EU Timber Regulation
EU Timber Regulation (995/2010) has established several legal obligations for operators and traders. Applicable across all EU member states it requires them to implement:

-A due diligence system
-A product information system, including source details
-Risk assessment procedures, to analyze and evaluate the risk of illegal timber reaching the market
-Risk mitigation procedures, to prevent illegal timber reaching the market

SGS White Paper, Understanding Regulation (EU) 995/2010 of the European Parliament and of the Council, offers a technical review of the obligations for companies importing and trading wood within the European Union.
