SenSen Names VP Engineering for IOT Analytics Platform

P2P Expertise, Commitment to Decentralised Operations as Video Data Combines with Other Sensors for Enhanced Customer View

Melbourne, Australia, March 12, 2015 --(PR.com)-- Australian analytics company SenSen Networks has appointed networking technology specialist Santosh Kulkarni to lead the team building out its next-generation Internet of Things analytics engine.

As Vice President of Engineering based in Melbourne, Australia, Kulkarni will lead the technology unit with the 32-strong company specialising in combining real-time video intelligence from CCTV and security cameras with data from other sensors such as GPS, radar and motion detectors for an enhanced view of private and public sector communities.

Kulkarni joins Sensen from peer-to-peer games company Scalify where he was responsible for designing fast and efficient multi-user applications, especially online games and virtual worlds.

By using the end-user network to deliver most of its functionality instead of relying on larger server-farms, Scalify was able to create games that were more attractive to play and had better performance and lower operating costs.

At SenSen, he will ensure that the IOT platform is robust and secure enough to meet the needs of clients who demand seamless operation in sectors such as law enforcement, security and surveillance, intelligent transport systems, leisure and retail.

SenSen’s core skill is in analyzing streams of Big Data in real time, recognizing all interesting events and creating accurate and structured metadata that lead to high-value applications.

“We have been overwhelmed with interest from sector specialists asking to build applications that feed into our analytics engine,” said SenSen CEO and founder Subhash Challa.

“As we are simply unable to pursue all these opportunities ourselves because of existing commitments to our existing customer base, we decided to open the engine to other developers, and we are fortunate that we have attracted an experienced professional like Santosh with deep skills in scalable software design and implementation especially cloud and distributed software.

“Our team is very strong in overall solution design and algorithms but Santosh adds to our proficiency in scalable, high-quality software design. He is a fantastic addition to our team.”

Hailing from the Indian city of Mumbai, Kulkarni has 15 years' experience in telecommunications and digital media. After moving to Australia he worked at Telstra and NICTA (Information and Communications Technology Research Centre of Excellence) before moving to Scalify.

“I am passionate about the innovation process and have been responsible for incubating new ideas and turning them into commercial products multiple times in my career,” Kulkarni said.

“These include a world-first decentralised network architecture for publishing online games in the cloud, a distributed webcasting solution for live video content and an adaptive framework for rich media services.

“SenSen’s IOT analytics platform has the potential to lead the world in adaptability and scalability, and the use of video for evidentiary and visual purposes in unparalleled. The platform is tailor made for the intersection of Big Data and the Internet of Things. By adding a video front end to visually enhance other data, we uncover hidden value, reveal fresh insights and discover new patterns.

“SenSen was founded as a video analytics company with applications in defence, security and surveillance, all of which require a visual record for evidentiary as well as compliance reasons, and the company has spent thousands of man hours building expertise in this field.”

SenSen’s analytics solution is designed and developed around a versatile, future-proofed platform capable of processing large volumes of unstructured video and other sensory data constantly streamed in real-time. The resulting insights are made available to business applications via industry-standard Application Programming Interfaces (APIs). Customer and market-focused business solution providers interact with these APIs to access the video analytics-generated data and deliver customer-specific business solutions.
