The Achievement of Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) Level 1 applies to gateways and is the highest service provider level issued by the PCI Council.

VISA and other members of the PCI Council developed the standard to protect cardholder and account information for all gateways and processors for credit and debit card transactions.
