Better Medicare Alliance Hires Capitol Hill Veteran to Lead Communications

The Better Medicare Alliance (BMA), a leading advocacy coalition dedicated to supporting and strengthening the Medicare Advantage program, announced it has hired Adjoa Adofo as Communications Director.

Washington, DC, November 04, 2015 --(PR.com)-- The Better Medicare Alliance (BMA), a leading advocacy coalition dedicated to supporting and strengthening the Medicare Advantage program, announced it has hired Adjoa Adofo as Communications Director.

Adofo brings a decade of strategic communications experience, both on and off the Hill, much of it related to health policy. She previously worked on Capitol Hill as Communications Director for Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-IL), co-chair of the Congressional Task Force on Seniors and a member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee. In her role, Adofo managed communications and media relations strategies on issues such as Medicare, Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act.

Since leaving Capitol Hill, Adofo ran health advocacy, public affairs and media relations campaigns at Schmidt Public Affairs and IR Media LLC.

“We are thrilled to have Adjoa join the Better Medicare Alliance at such an important time for BMA and for Medicare,” said Allyson Y. Schwartz, President and CEO of the Better Medicare Alliance. “Adjoa brings a wealth of experience and expertise having worked at the intersection of health policy and media relations, across both the public and private sectors. She will be a great asset to BMA as we work to educate and inform policymakers and the public on the value of Medicare Advantage, as an important option within the Medicare program.”

As Communications Director at the Better Medicare Alliance, Adofo will oversee the coalition’s communications with media, government officials and stakeholder groups. Adofo is one of several planned hires for the Better Medicare Alliance.

“I am excited to join the Better Medicare Alliance and work to educate the public and policymakers about the value and benefit of Medicare Advantage to the 17 million seniors who depend on the program for access to quality health care,” said Adofo. “I look forward to being part of the BMA coalition, focused on securing Medicare’s future that includes a robust Medicare Advantage program.”

Prior to her career on Capitol Hill, Adofo was a reporter at The Congressional Quarterly (CQ) where she covered House Energy and Commerce Committee and Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee work on the Affordable Care Act. Prior to CQ, she covered local politics at The Kansas City Star, The Miami Herald, The Philadelphia Inquirer and The Macon Telegraph.

She will report directly to President and CEO Allyson Y. Schwartz.
