ESGR Pennsylvania Committee Supports Veterans Employment Event

Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve Acknowledges Outstanding Effort of Allegheny County Office of Veterans Services.

Harrisburg, PA, February 10, 2006 --(PR.com)-- A special event is happening next Wednesday in Pittsburgh.  No, this one does not involve football, a parade, or a trophy.  It is about helping a Veteran of the United States Military get a job, a better paying one, or find out about educational benefits from one of more than a dozen Pittsburgh-based higher institutions of learning.

United States Department of Labor statistics show that there is a 15% unemployment rate of Veterans ranging in age from 20 to 24.  The January 2006 national unemployment rate averages at 4.7%.  The Pittsburgh area unemployment rate ended 2005 with a preliminary percentage of 4.6%, dropping from a confirmed number of 5.0% in November of 2005.  With this disparate number of young Veterans unemployed or “under employed” based on experience, skill, and academic background, the idea of sponsoring this Veterans employment event was formed.

The event will be held Wednesday, February 15th at historic Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hall in Oakland, directly across from the Cathedral of Learning on the University of Pittsburgh Main Campus.  Doors at Soldiers and Sailors will open at 11 AM and the event will run until 7 PM.  Over 75 regional corporations, businesses, veterans service organizations, and colleges and universities will be participating.

Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve will be there for these Veterans.  Will you?

If you want additional information, contact Mr. Ronald F. Conley, Manager, Allegheny County Veteran Affairs at 412-621-4357 or via e-mail at RFConley@county.allegheny.pa.us.  Soldiers & Sailors Memorial is located at 4141 5th Ave Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania 15213.

Oh, by the way, you can take “The Bus” to the event. The 501B runs non-stop from Heinz Field, Northside to the steps of Soldiers & Sailors.  See you there.
