Applewood Our House Opens New Memory Care Home in Lakewood

The new memory care home opened in Lakewood is Applewood Our House's fourth group home opened in five years.

Lakewood, CO, April 30, 2016 --(PR.com)-- If you or a family member need assisted living care especially for Alzheimer’s or Dementia, Applewood Our House recently opened its fourth memory care home. The newly-built, 7,500-sq. ft. home is located at 1182 S. Van Gordon Ct. in South Lakewood. The home has openings for seven additional residents to reach its 16-resident capacity.

“We are very pleased with the completion of our new Lakewood home,” says Applewood Our House Owner Alan Wyngarden. “The prospective residents and their families who have visited agree that it feels very homey and secure—a step above other assisted living homes.

“Our homes offer services and structure specifically designed to accommodate those with various dementias and assisted living needs,” Wyngarden says. “We know that music and lighting can have a big effect on our residents so we have added the Sonos smart speaker system that streams music to any room and Phillips Hue color lighting that can increase moods and well-being. Both are controlled with simple smart phone apps.

“Our staff has specialized training in caring for those with dementia and related diseases,” Wyngarden continues. “We offer: 24-hour supervision in eight-hour shifts to keep our staff energized so they best serve our residents; three daily dietician-designed meals prepared to perfection with food grown in our backyard garden; daily creative and varied activities such as sitter size (exercise), gardening, crafts, cooking, singing and dancing; off-site activities such as bowling, fishing and circus trips in the home’s new van; and care services specific to each resident.

“The neighborhood of our new Lakewood home is a mix of single-family homes and small businesses,” says Wyngarden. “One of the businesses is the American Music School and we have developed a partnership where some of their students will come over to play for our residents.”

Outstanding features of Applewood Our House IV include several indoor areas to sit and socialize; pet therapy programs; a cozy fireplace; a large, open kitchen with counter; indoor and outdoor dining areas; a tranquil garden and walking path; state-of-the-art alert and security systems as well as fire/sprinkler systems; three walk-in shower rooms; on-site salon with beautician services; and on-site laundry facilities.

Each resident room includes bathroom, bed, closet organizer, flat screen TV, nightstand and lamp. Residents may also bring their own furnishings.

“Safety and security are top priorities for our residents,” says Wyngarden. “Our mission is, ‘Where new memories begin’ which we implement by providing daily opportunities for residents to exercise, care, connect and eat well. We want this to truly be their ‘home away from home’—a home where they can live well, laugh often and love much.”

Applewood Our House I in Golden (1365 Yank St) has been at capacity with 12 residents since it opened in spring 2011 and Our House II in Lakewood (1900 Upham St.) opened in summer 2012 and has 16 residents.
