Koorsen Life Safety Technical Program Receives Award for Excellence

Koorsen Fire & Security was recognized with the Award for Excellence by the State of Indiana for the Koorsen Life Safety Technical Program, a program that trains high school seniors in fire protection and security systems.

Indianapolis, IN, February 23, 2017 --(PR.com)-- Koorsen Fire & Security was honored to be recognized by the State of Indiana for their Koorsen Life Safety Technical Program, a program that trains high school seniors in fire protection and security systems. In partnership with the Walker Career Center, the Koorsen program received the Indiana Career & Technical Education Award for Excellence.

The Koorsen Life Safety Technical Program empowers Warren Central High School’s Walker Career Center students who are enrolled in electrical, building and/or IT programs, to become skilled and trained in life safety and eligible for reliable and lucrative jobs upon graduation.

In its inaugural year during the 2015-2016 school year, ten students participated in the program. Seven of the students completed the program and were offered paid summer internships at Koorsen Fire & Security. Upon completion of the internships, all seven were offered full-time jobs. The Walker Career Center and Koorsen hope to build upon this success in its second year, which is going on now.

Developed by Corporate Manager Systems Service Tom Zornes, the Koorsen Life Safety Technical Program is an ideal example of how education and business can and should work together to provide students with an excellent technical education that realistically aligns career paths with work-based experiences, leading to full-time employment after graduation.

Students enrolled in the program are not only exposed to classroom experience led by industry professionals, they also receive hands-on training at the nationally-acclaimed Koorsen Training Center. Students who successfully complete the program receive fire alarm and fire sprinkler certification, along with 6 Honeywell certifications in security. Upon graduation, all successful students are eligible for a paid internship and the potential of a full-time job at Koorsen after the internship.

Koorsen Fire & Security benefits from this program by acquiring young, skilled employees who are already Koorsen-trained and who are already invested in a long-term career at a Koorsen location. The State of Indiana benefits through a stronger, more technically skilled workforce. The Walker Career Center benefits by continuing to uphold its reputation for offering technical programs that offer excellence in education.

Unique and innovative are two adjectives that describe the Koorsen Life Safety Technical program in its totality. The Walker Career Center was the first career center to pilot this program with Koorsen in 2015-2016. In its inaugural year, the program was so successful that Koorsen now plans to expand the program to other technical school programs in Central Indiana. Koorsen is also working to expand this program to Indiana colleges and universities.

Koorsen Fire & Security was founded in 1946 and is a third-generation, family owned business.
