Sydney, Australia, April 22, 2017 --(PR.com
)-- Struggling with increased costs from solids handling system as well as decreased productivity for an extended period of time, the Lismore City Council finally resolved the chronic problems with the digester pump at their South Lismore sewage treatment plant with the Gorman-Rupp’s Eradicator™ system.
“Our sewage pump would choke during its job of turning over the digester, and that (happened) on a daily basis,” explained Mr. Matt Potter and Mr. Brad Hampson, speaking for the plant.
The council was initially using a Gorman-Rupp T3A3S-B self-priming sewage pump, but the sheer number of rags made it extremely challenging for even this excellent solids handling pump to pass all the rags, all the time.
To alleviate the issue, they tried using different wear plates from different companies, but the best the temporary solution delivered was to only limit choking to once or twice per week by installing one of Gorman-Rupp’s self-cleaning wear plates.
Through a suggestion from Hydro Innovations, the council was then told of Gorman-Rupp’s new Eradicator Solids Management System and they decided to try the system, and found positive results.
After installing the system, which is available as an upgrade kit for existing Super T, into their existing Gorman-Rupp T3, the pump ran for 3 months without a single choke. In the same period, they would have expected to have between 12 and 24 chokes.
Matt, Brad and their colleagues at the council were very pleased with the result. “We couldn’t be happier that our sewage pump problems have come to an end.”
The Eradicator™ system features an aggressive self-cleaning wear-plate that incorporates a number of notches and grooves, as well as a patent pending lacerating tooth. This tooth helps break up stringy materials such as rags, scrapes them off the impeller vanes and passes them through the pump – all without impacting performance or interrupting service.
A special cover plate with the system also includes a patented lightweight inspection cover that can easily be removed, if necessary, to inspect pump internals. In addition, clearance adjustments, oil changes, and general inspections with the system only take minutes, which adds up to massive savings in time over the life of the pump.
The Eradicator system is available on all Gorman-Rupp Super T Series pump models, so the range can achieve flows from 5 LPS through to 150 LPS and deliver heads to 40 metres, while working on suction lifts to 7.6m. Because they are self-priming pumps, the pumps can be located at ground level, giving operators easy and safe access to the pumps for monitoring and/or service, unlike submersible pumps which require cranes and several operators to access. The wet well lids also stay closed with self-priming pumps so that operators are not exposed to falling into the wet well when inspections or repairs have to be done with the pumps.
About Hydro Innovations
Hydro Innovations was formed in 2008 to be the Gorman-Rupp pump distributor for Australia. We have since grown our “stable” of pump manufacturers to include RamParts of USA, EDUR of Germany and Ragazzini of Italy. The company has been very particular in selecting manufacturers to represent, wanting only the best in each class to offer to our customers.
We promote self-priming pump systems, as they are safer for operators and more cost effective for asset owners. These high-quality pumps can reduce civil costs, reduce maintenance costs and greatly improve safety.
Hydro Innovations’ capabilities have grown over time and now include CAD, 3D modeling, and finite element analysis. We have also developed our own pump bases which have been specifically designed for use with self-priming pumps, and with input from EDUR, are developing pumping systems for DAF plants.
Dedicated to delivering excellent products and services to our customers, we service municipal and industrial wastewater, food process, utilities pumps and paper manufacturing.
