MakeShaper Releases Four New Filament Materials

Sanford, NC, July 20, 2017 --(PR.com)-- MakeShaper, a 3D filament and supply company based in North Carolina, has recently launched four new filaments: High impact polystyrene (HIPS), semi-flexible thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) 90A, carbon fiber polylactic acid (PLA) and glow-in-the-dark PLA.

“Each filament meets the exacting standards for consistent diameter and ovality that are essential to MakeShaper filaments,” said Erica Edwards, sales manager for MakeShaper. “We are continually adding to our offering and have several materials currently in development that we look forward to sharing in the near future.”

HIPS filament is used frequently as a support material in ABS prints. It dissolves easily in d-Limonene, leaving no mess. MakeShaper has a video showing the entire dissolving process at https://youtu.be/5SnllvP4hjw. Available in 1.75mm diameter, it is currently produced in eight colors.

Semi-flexible TPU 90A is more rigid than the company’s previously released 85A flexible offering. It provides greater than 500% elongation, meaning that a 10 inch section could be stretched to 60 inches before breaking. Its flexibility is on par to a shoe heel or a shopping cart wheel. It is available in both 1.75 and 2.85mm diameters in eight colors.

Carbon fiber PLA is easy to print like regular PLA, but is highly rigid and provides a matte black finish. This 1.75mm filament is available in black, the natural carbon fiber color.

Also released was glow-in-the-dark PLA. This filament is available in three colors in 1.75mm diameter.
