Texas Society of Professional Surveyors Recognizes Leading Land Surveyor: Doug Turner, IDS Survey Director, Named Surveyor of the Year

Houston, TX, December 02, 2017 --(PR.com)-- The Texas Society of Professional Surveyors (TSPS) selected Doug Turner, Survey Director for IDS Engineering Group, as Surveyor of the Year. The award recognizes surveyors who have exhibited outstanding service to TSPS and the surveying profession, as well as acting as a good and valuable citizen in the community.

Doug has been survey manager for a broad range of projects directly impacting the livability of the region. His projects have resulted in improved vehicular mobility and drive experience, such as street rehabilitation around NRG Stadium in advance of the Super Bowl, and safe bikeways, trails, and pedestrian bridges along Keegan’s Bayou Bikeway and the Greens Bayou Trail. Internally, Doug is a mentor for new surveyors, to grow their skills and involvement in the profession.

During the awards ceremony, the TSPS said, “He is not just an outstanding candidate for this award; he is the definition of professionalism among Texas surveyors.”

Doug joined the profession in 1969 and served on the Texas Board of Professional Land Surveying, a Texas Gubernatorial appointment, for 12 years. He is active in the engineering and land surveying communities, sharing his expertise by serving on the Texas Board of Professional Land Surveying, Texas Society of Professional Surveyors, National Council of Examiners of Engineering and Surveying (NCESS), National Society of Professional Surveyors, American Congress on Surveying and Mapping, San Jacinto College Surveying and Mapping Program Advisory Board, and Lone Star College Land Surveying and Mapping Technology Advisory Committee. As a surveying specialist, he has contributed to the education of Texas surveyors through the many seminars he has developed and presented since 2001. He has represented his profession in more than 30 speaking engagements and presentations to institutions such as the Texas Department of Transportation, Texas A&M University, Texas State Technical College, National Association of Land and Title Annalists Convention, and Lone Star College, as well as serving in advisory roles for two surveying college programs.
