Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hall Stands with Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve

Signing of “5-Star” Statement of Support for Our Troops Has Deep Meaning for This Pennsylvania and National Historic Landmark Institution

Harrisburg, PA, March 01, 2006 --(PR.com)-- “We are and have always been about supporting our men and women in uniform,” emphasized President and Chief Executive Officer of Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hall, Mr. Ron Gancas, “Support for our National Guard and Reserve personnel is critical now more than ever.”

On behalf of the Board of Directors, staff and management, Mr. Gancas signed a “5-Star Statement of Support” with Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve in a ceremony at Soldiers and Sailors during the recent Veterans Job Expo, sponsored by the Allegheny County Office of Veterans Services and conducted at the Hall last week. Flanked by Mr. Jim Gubash, Senior Vice President of Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hall, many of the Job Expo exhibitors and attendees, administrative staff and management witnessed the signing event. Over 400 Veterans were offered job search assistance through direct hiring manager outreach with more than 75 local employers. Veteran support and educational opportunity assistance was offered by organizations like ESGR, Allegheny County Career Link, and over a dozen Pittsburgh-based institutions of higher learning.

Mr. Fred Fair, Northwest Pennsylvania Area Chairman of ESGR conducted the “5 Star Statement of Support” with Mr. Gancas and Soldiers and Sailors, as well as provided dozens of Active Reserve and National Guard personnel information about Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve.

Since 1999, Mr. Gancas, has been involved with Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hall and as of September of last year, succeeded the late Joseph A. Dugan, Jr. as its President. Mr. Gancas, a Pittsburgh native and lifelong resident, published Civil War author, and United States Marine, understands the power of supporting “our troops in harms way”. His son, a recently promoted Naval Captain, is currently supporting operations on the War on Terror.

“We cannot let any opportunity pass by to effectively demonstrate our support for Our Troops,” stated Mr. Gancas. “The best tribute to those who have passed in service to Our Country is to take the best care possible of those who are currently serving it today.”

Mr. Gancas, we could not have said it any better.

The “5-Star” Statement of Support program is an ongoing ESGR sponsored program that recognizes companies who show their support to their National Guard and Reserve employees.
