MLM Group, Part of Sweco, Come Out Top with High-Rise Building Project

Acoustic consultant’s efforts on building scheme recognised by industry awards scheme.

Royston, United Kingdom, June 20, 2019 --(PR.com)-- Acoustic expert MLM Group, now part of Sweco, has won the Environmental: Non-Infrastructure category, sponsored by Bruel & Kjaer UK, at the Association of Noise Consultants’ (ANC) 2019 awards scheme.

MLM Group, received the accolade for its work concerning a building site next to a viaduct and night club, on which a 7-storey residential building was planned.

With concerns from local environmental health officers (EHOs) about potential noise issues to future occupants and the night club owners firmly opposed to the scheme, MLM Group stepped in to ensure that good acoustic conditions would be achieved.

The consultancy faced many challenges, which involved redesigning the scheme several times, whilst ensuring an optimum balance with other design constraints - and an architectural design appropriate for the regeneration of the local area.

To meet these challenges MLM Group identified several vital acoustic aspects; this included re-orientation of the internal layout so no bedrooms faced the night-club; relocation of the central corridor to form an external one facing the night-club and high-acoustic performance winter gardens in front of the rooms facing the night-club and viaduct, to help mitigate noise.

The local Environmental Protection Officer involved commented: “This is a very good example of the local authority officers, developers and their acoustic consultants working towards solutions that would provide satisfactory levels of amenity, in a very challenging environment.”

As well as winning first place during the ANC Awards, MLM Group also received a brand-new B&K 2245 from Bruel & Kjaer UK, presented during the awards’ dinner on 6th June in Manchester’s Crowne Plaza hotel.

The award was accepted by MLM Group’s Principal Acoustic Consultant, Victor Valeron who said: “We are delighted to receive this award, which is the result of a great team work at MLM Group to provide ‘Good Acoustic Design’ in an extremely challenging acoustic environment.”
