The nation’s leading advocate for people with fibromyalgia – Kristin Thorson offers entrepreneurs valuable advice as a SBTV.com Featured Advisor.

St. Louis, MO, May 18, 2008 --(PR.com)-- President and founder of both Fibromyalgia Network and the American Fibromyalgia Syndrome Association - Kristin Thorson joins SBTV.com in an exclusive fibromyalgia awareness interview.

In a recent SBTV.com podcast interview, Thorson talks about how fibromyalgia affects the workplace and what business owners can do to help. This is the first of a special series devoted to Fibro in the workplace. SBTV.com will launch a new segment every Friday through June.

Fibromyalgia means pain in the muscles, ligaments, and tendons – the soft fibrous tissues in the body. According to the Fibromyalgia Network, the primary symptoms of fibromyalgia include widespread musculoskeletal pain, severe fatigue, and disturbed sleep. More women than men are afflicted with fibromyalgia, and it shows up in people of all ages. A conservative estimate of its prevalence is 2% of the general population, but it may be as high as 3-5%.

Thorson started the Fibromyalgia Network that provides fibromyalgia patients with valuable education and treatment updates to help them control their symptoms and remain productive. She also started the American Fibromyalgia Syndrome Association (AFSA), a nonprofit organization that raises money for researching the cause of fibromyalgia.

As a new member of SBTV.com’s Featured Advisor team, Thorson says, “Fibromyalgia patients for the most part are highly motivated to keep their jobs. Employment often comes with feelings of self-worth and self-esteem. Based on our surveys, these women and men are willing to work with employers for a few inexpensive modifications that enable them to succeed.”
