Organic Apparel Label Teams with Environmental Non-Profits for Design Contest

District Cotton’s new t-shirt design contest aims to raise money and awareness for local green-groups, while creating some awesome t-shirts in the process.

New York, NY, June 01, 2008 --(PR.com)-- Organic street-wear label District Cotton has teamed up with the non-profit organization Trees Not Trash to launch the latest round of the District Shootout T-shirt design contest. The Shootout takes a new approach to the recent popularity of online design contests by adding an element of social responsibility to the concept. Each month a new theme is selected for designs, with a relevant environmental non-profit organization receiving a portion of the sales. The contest format creates a fun way for non-profits to promote their causes while at the same time raising a little cash.

Beginning today submissions will be accepted under the theme of “Big City” which aims to celebrate urban living now that the summer is finally here. Trees Not Trash, based in the largely industrial-turned-residential neighborhood of Brooklyn’s East Williamsburg will receive 10% of proceeds from shirt sales. Over the last few years design contest sites have become wildly popular following the success of Chicago based t-shirt maker Threadless. Community-driven content sites, such as Threadless and the District Shootout allow for designers to view, critique and vote on entries before they are ever put to print.

Winning submissions will be selected by the District design team based on originality, feedback from the website, and total vote count. Winning entries will receive $300 in cash and a $100 DC gift certificate. Submissions will be accepted at designcontest@districtcotton.com until June 20.
