The American Celiac Disease Alliance (ACDA) announces unprecedented support for bill by Rep. Nita Lowey recognizing May as National Celiac Disease Awareness Month. The measure also emphasizes the important role dietitians play in helping celiac patients, and urges more funding for celiac research. Major medical groups, pharmaceutical companies, food manufacturers and patient support groups have endorsed the bill. - May 17, 2008
The American Celiac Disease Alliance (ACDA), recognized for its efforts to improve the nation's food labeling laws, is pleased to announce its new members. Like the other members of the internationally recognized nonprofit, the eight new members represent medical researchers, patient support groups, and food manufacturers. FDA has announced proposed rules setting standards defining the term 'gluten-free' and how manufacturers may use the term in labeling. The proposal will make it easier for the estimated 2 million Americans with celiac disease to make safe food choices. Persons with celiac disease cannot eat the protein gluten which is found in wheat, rye or barley. - January 24, 2007
