A Rescued Dog from the Streets Helps a High School Senior with Type 1 Diabetes Gain Her Independence

Amy & Juniper are inseparable. Amy is a high school senior from Pekin IL, with Type 1 diabetes. Juniper, is a dog, a husky mix found on the streets of Indianapolis. Together they go to school, to show choir rehearsals and to doctors appointments. This unlikely service dog has been trained to detect changes in Amy's glucose levels. She'll make sure that Amy is safe as she transitions from home to college. Without Juniper, Amy would have to stay home where mom can check on her at night. - January 09, 2015
