WCED Podcast Targets Medical Design and Medical Manufacturing Companies

Raleigh, NC, January 28, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Ken Atkins, executive director for Wake County Economic Development (WCED) (www.raleigh-wake.org), has announced the release of a new audio podcast discussing key benefits of Wake County for relocating and/or expanding companies in the medical design and medical manufacturing industries. The podcast features commentary from Conni Tucker, assistant executive director for WCED, and addresses questions such as:

What makes Wake County an attractive destination for medical design and medical manufacturing companies?

What positions Wake County competitively within this market compared to expanding areas in the United States?

How do medical design and medical manufacturing businesses benefit the Wake County economy?

At WCED, Tucker is responsible for recruiting new businesses to Wake County, with a specific focus on companies in the advanced medical technologies field, as well as marketing the County both nationally and internationally. Additional duties include assisting the director in the management of financial, marketing and strategic planning operations for the organization. A Raleigh native, she joined WCED in 1998.

In continuing its ongoing efforts to target medical design and medical manufacturing companies, Wake County Economic Development will exhibit this year at the industry-acclaimed and 25th annual Medical Design & Manufacturing West Conference, scheduled to take place Feb. 9-12 at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, Calif. The MD&M West conference will host more than 1,700 suppliers from leading companies in medical design and medical manufacturing and feature new products, practices and processes for one of the nation’s fastest-growing markets valued at more than $119 billion.

The new WCED podcast is now available for download at: www.raleigh-wake.org/section/news-and-podcasts.

“Wake County has a great history in manufacturing,” said Tucker. “More recently Wake County has become a leader in pharmaceutical and biotechnology. When you combine manufacturing, pharma and bio what you find is that our area has a great infrastructure for medical design and medical manufacturing companies.”
