Green Leadership Institute Launches Scholar Residence Program

Scholar Residents will have opportunity to live and work on Carbon-Neutral Development Gelston Castle Estate as members of Green Leadership Institute for 3 months with room and board provided

Mohawk, NY, April 11, 2009 --(PR.com)-- The Green Leadership Institute, a 501c3 non-profit organization established to foster learning and interaction through sustainable programs that resolve the non-responsive environmental and social justice for communities around the world, has launched a Scholar Residence program.

Safflyn Corporation will be sponsoring the Scholar Residence Program at Gelston Castle Estate in Jordanville, NY. The program, available through the Green Leadership Institute, invites students enrolled in Accredited Colleges and Universities in New York State to apply.

The Program offers students an opportunity to live and work on an Historic Estate that is currently a sustainable development and will include room and board with full-time residence on the Estate.

"The Scholar Residence program offers students who are interested in the Green movement and are interested in being Green Leaders the opportunity to experience first hand a real development that is focused on carbon neutral goals."

Gelston Castle Estate, the historic 330-acre private retreat of Presidents James Monroe, Theodore Roosevelt and Franklin D. Roosevelt is a sustainable development of Safflyn Corporation.

Residents will have the opportunity to live and work with staff and faculty on one of the most exciting sustainability projects worldwide. Residents will stay for 3 months on the Estate with room and board provided to them.

In exchange for receiving room and board, Scholar Residents will be required to work with staff on Estate projects and participate in educational programs. Scholar Residents will have the opportunity to learn about sustainable living, green building and low impact planning during a seasonal semester on the Estate grounds.

The program is open to students between the ages of 18-35 who are enrolled in an Accredited College as Undergradute or Graduate students. High Schools Seniors may apply if enrolled. You must be a current New York State Resident to apply.

The program is offered for seasonal semesters. The first semester will begin June 1st 2009. Seasonal programs are on the following schedule:

Summer Season – June 1st – August 15th
Fall Season – August 16th – November 30th
Winter Season – December 1st – February 28th
Spring Season – March 1st – May 31st

The Scholar Residence program is valued at $10 thousand dollars in Residential living assistance and there are 5 available seats per season.

Applicants are required to write two essays on the following questions:

What role should sustainable development have in the planning of future cities, towns and villages?
How can Green Collar Jobs offer business and communities more sustainable economic development?

A $100 dollar processing fee is required with submission of application.
