Philadelphia, PA, July 25, 2009 --(PR.com)-- On Saturday, August 8, 2009 five time Grammy Award Nominee Jazmine Sullivan will be live and in concert with her full band to cap off Nicetown CDCs 7th Annual Give Back To The Community Festival in Nicetown Park at 4300 Germantown Avenue in the City of Philadelphia.

Truly a Philadelphia “Give Back” story. The Nicetown Community Development Corporation (NTCDC), organized in the City of Philadelphia in 1999 to improve the quality of life in the Nicetown and surrounding communities by establishing sustainable and effective socio-economic development initiatives, hosts its 7th Annual Give Back To The Community Festival. The festival highlights NTCDC’s ongoing efforts to mobilize neighborhood residents to be active stakeholders in their community by giving back to the community.

Philadelphian Jazmine Sullivan who began her career at the age of 11 with a stint at the Apollo, has been nominated for the 51st Grammy Awards for Best Traditional R&B Vocal Performance (“I‘m In Love With Another Man“), Best R&B Song (“Bust Your Windows“), Best New Artist, Best R&B Album (“Fearless“), and Best Female R&B Vocal Performance (“Need U Bad“). Championed by previous Give Back Festival headliners such as Philadelphia’s own Kindred, Pieces of a Dream, and Hezekiah, the statuesque and beautiful Jazmine is all at once smart, sassy, insightful, down to earth and very real. As the primary songwriter on her debut album Fearless, Jazmine brings her own experiences and observations on life and love with vivid storytelling imagery to her songs. Jazmine explains her approach to songwriting: “I’m 21 years old, just coming into womanhood…It’s about empowering young women.” Philadelphia’s own OARC is the concert’s presenting sponsor.

The Give Back To The Community Festival has been a catalyst for local economic growth and development, attracting thousands to the area while showcasing the why, the methods, the benefits and results of individual and collective giving back. A two day interactive cultural celebration, The Give Back kicks-off with a Health Fair on Friday, August 7, 2009 from 12:00 noon until 4:00 pm based on the premise, if one is not healthy one is not able to effectively give back. Saturday, August 8th begins with the Walk For Peace with over 30 community and faithbased organizations, City agencies, schools, and businesses leading this peace walk which informs and mobilizes residents to be active stakeholders against crime and violence.

Every year the NTCDC awards outstanding community service at the Give Back. This year Philadelphia’s 107.9/WRNB’s Dyana Williams will receive special recognition for her impact and commitment as an entertainment industry pioneer. Also, Comcast will make a very exciting and historical announcement regarding how Comcast will be giving back in the Nicetown area. Other weekend activities include a children’s amusement area, a daily Godda Godda Collection fashion show, dance competition on Friday, and give-aways, food, merchandise, and information vendors all weekend.

Production partners are J&R Grassroots Artist Development and NuSound Millenium. J&R Grassroots, founded by Mrs. Rashida Jabbar, rounds out the festival by producing an exciting diverse array of performance acts from Philadelphia, New York, and as far as Florida. Host Franky J of WYBE TV-35’s Urban Xpressions along R&B, Gospel, Jazz, Hip Hop, and Dance performances by Royce Holiday, Delio Y Misterio Los Reals, Ms. Jade, Mrs. Betty’s Son, Damon Williams, Tox Burner, Phoenix Drill Team, Black Deniro, Dapper Doe Man, Blaqmel, RCE Gospel, MBL All Stars, G.O.D.
