Kansas City Blended Family Couple Has a Giant Heart for America’s Stepfamilies - The Bonded Family Launches First of a Kind 'Blended Family Today' Radio Program

With over 20+ million households facing unique and challenging dynamics of stepfamily life, one midwest couple launches the 'first of its kind' radio program for blended families. Blended Family Today is live every Sunday morning in Kansas City on Union Broadcasting KCTE 1510 AM radio, as well as heard live nationally via internet streaming technology. Dan and Rebecca Snell are the hosts of the program.

Kansas City, MO, September 04, 2009 --(PR.com)-- A surprising demographic phenomenon will take place quietly in 2010. It may be an ‘under the radar’ change in the makeup of the American Family. According to the American Blended Family Association, the most common form of family household in America in 2010 will be some form of a step-family. Currently there are over 20+ million blended family households in America. When children are counted into that equation, the population in the USA immediately touched by step-family dynamics is over 120 million people.

The unique challenges and dynamics in divorce, re-marriage and step-family life inspired one Kansas City couple to launch an outreach to make a difference in the success and encouragement for these blended families.

Often families in this under-discussed, and very challenging, demographic are not sure where to turn for assistance. Dan and Rebecca Snell, themselves fourteen-year parents in a blended family sought to take action to help other families facing stepfamily dynamics. In 2005 they founded a faith-based organization called The Bonded Family. The purpose is to extend ‘encouragement, hope, motivation and Biblical inspiration’ to families facing challenges. Through their research, conferences and workshops, family coaching, and other resources they have touched the lives of over 50,000 people.

In early 2009 the Snell’s began a conversation with Union Broadcasting (UBC) in Kansas City to discuss hosting a weekly Sunday morning live program, specifically reaching out to families. UBC is a sports talk network, yet embraced the faith-based programming on Sunday morning. Thus on Easter morning 2009 Blended Family Today became the first of its kind in America, 100% blended family centric radio program from a faith-based perspective.

The Snell’s are parents to six children in a ‘yours, mine and ours’ family. “In our 1996 wedding day ceremony, we included the kids and there were ages 3, 4, 5, 9 and 12 there on the altar with us’” Rebecca Snell noted. Fourteen years later, and even today recognize and work through the unique family dynamics, Dan Snell attests, “Even today God is not done. Rebecca and I are bonded to the Lord first, and in that we have victory in our marriage, and have seen God's hand work in our children over the years.”

Dan and Rebecca spent the last 10 years conducting research, hosting focus groups, attending ministry conferences, speaking with family and marriage therapists and visiting with national ministry leaders on the topic. Along with the radio program, today they are recognized as one of the few faith-based step-family authorities in America.

The statistics surrounding marriage and step-families in America:

-- 48% of all first marriages will eventually end in legal divorce
-- 79% of women, and 89% of men, get married again within 5 years
-- 68% of those remarriages involve children from the prior marriage
-- Every day in America over 2,100 Blended Families are formed
-- 72% of those blended families will end disolved within 6 years
-- By 2010, stepfamilies are projected to be the predominate form of family in the U.S.
-- Less than 25% of step-families go to church regularly because they ‘don’t feel the church cares'
-- 65% of Pastors in America state ‘we don’t know how to serve these stepfamilies’
-- 81% of step-parents say ‘we don’t know where to turn to for help’

Dan Snell added, “God is a God of second chances. There is a God-sized need to reach out to blended families (step-families) in America today. Many feel embarrassed, and don’t want to talk about their challenges. God’s in the business of redeeming people not scrapping people. We want to take His message of hope and encouragement to others. We have seen first hand the ups and downs in blended families."
