Freehold, NJ, February 12, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Dr. Kristen E. Cardamone, a board-certified interventional physiatrist, has joined the team of orthopedic surgeons at Advanced Orthopedics and Sports Medicine Institute (AOSMI) of Freehold and Monroe townships, New Jersey. A physiatrist is a doctor who specializes in restoring optimal function to people with injuries to the muscles, bones, tissues, and nervous system.

Dr. Cardamone, who is trained in physical medicine and rehabilitation, is also fellowship-trained in sports, spine, and pain management, her subspecialty. In addition to her expertise in these areas, Dr. Cardamone has a special interest in cancer rehabilitation pain management as well as pre- and postpartum pain management.

At AOSMI, Dr. Cardamone sees patients clinically in the office; performs procedures, such as electrodiagnostic tests called EMGs, and nerve conduction studies; performs spinal injections; manages cancer-related pain complications; and treats musculoskeletal pain associated with pregnancy and postpartum issues.

Before joining AOSMI in New Jersey, Dr. Cardamone completed her fellowship in orthopedic sports and spine rehabilitation at Beth Israel Medical Center’s Spine Institute of New York and Continuum Center for Healing and Healing in Manhattan.

Dr. Cardamone, who grew up in Branchburg, N.J., and is a graduate of Somerville High School, received a B.A. from Boston University in biology with a specialization in neuroscience. She was graduated from New York College of Osteopathic Medicine with a D.O. in 2004. She completed her internship through the Saint Barnabas Healthcare System of N.J. and her residency at New York-Presbyterian Hospital, N.Y.C.

After training at affiliated residency sites, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, and the Hospital for Special Surgery, N.Y., Dr. Cardamone developed an interest in treating individuals who are suffering from pain as a result of cancer treatments. She says, “There is a true lack of physicians who have experience treating cancer syndromes after chemotherapy and radiation, such as neuropathy and pain syndromes resulting from the disease itself and its related complications.”

Dr. Cardamone co-authored “Visceral Pain in Cancer,” a chapter in the book Cancer Rehabilitation Principles and Practice.

Dr. Cardamone is a member of the American Osteopathic College of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, the International Spine Intervention Society, and the American Association of Neuromuscular & Electrodiagnostic Medicine.
