Free Help and Advice for Parents as Campaign for Healthy Little Feet Launches

Norwich, United Kingdom, March 29, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Following research* showing that 50% of babies born in the UK could develop foot problems in adult life caused by wearing ill-fitting shoes as children, a brand new campaigning website has been launched to provide parents with expert advice on foot health and the importance of fitted shoes from an early age.

Sponsored by Start-rite, the Healthy Little Feet campaign answers the common questions that parents have about their children’s feet, giving invaluable tips and advice on the right time for their child’s first pair of fitted shoes.

Working with leading podiatrist Emma Supple, www.healthylittlefeet.com features in-depth articles on common foot problems in children, and a unique interactive online checklist so parents can tell easily if it is the right time to take their child to be fitted for their first pair of shoes.

The campaign is encouraging parents to register to show their support and receive the latest information on children’s foot health.

Susan O’Hare, Product Director for Start-rite said; “We are delighted to be sponsoring the campaign for Healthy Little Feet. We know that parents have lots of questions about children’s foot health, and often find it hard to know when their children are ready for their first pair of walking shoes. The top tips on the site will help equip them to make informed decisions and keep their children’s feet healthy for life.”

*A YouGov survey for the Society of Chiropodists and Podiatrists (SCP) suggests that more than three quarters of women and two thirds of men suffer from foot problems, yet nearly half fail to see a doctor or specialist about them. An estimated 70 per cent of these problems began in school — and with so many cheap fashion imports available, plus the popularity of off-the-shelf and mail-order shoes, “logic dictates that it is going to get worse,” says Gordon Watt, a paediatric podiatrist.
