West Orange, NJ, May 10, 2010 --(PR.com)-- In considering career options, many people may overlook, or simply not know about, the career path to becoming a law librarian. In the latest Ear on Careers podcast, produced by Top-Tier Tutoring, Joseph Mitzenmacher provides excellent information and guidance to those contemplating, or simply exploring, this industry. In this podcast, Mitzenmacher, a law librarian at the Loyola University Chicago School of Law, discusses his path from practicing law to working as a librarian within a law school setting. After graduating from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with both a B.A. in Economics and a Juris Doctorate, Mitzenmacher embarked upon a career as a lawyer. However, when he did not find fulfillment as an attorney, he researched this related field and received his Master’s Degree in Library Science from Dominican University.

During the podcast, Mitzenmacher explains that the role of a law librarian is not relegated to checking out books for students. In fact, he assists both law students and faculty members with some obscure research assignments and reference questions, as well as acts as a liaison with faculty and electronic service vendors. In addition, he teaches legal research classes. Listen as Mitzenmacher discusses surprises in the field, shares a “war story,” and gives insight into his typical day. Mitzenmacher also provides excellent tips and recommendations for those listeners considering a career as a law librarian.

“Joe took charge of his career when he decided that the practice of law was not for him; building upon his legal education and experience, ultimately he was led to becoming a law librarian,” states Mike Rivera, co-founder of Top-Tier Tutoring and host of Ear on Careers. He continues, “In his role as a law librarian, Joe combines the practical know-how garnered from his years as an attorney with an educator’s perspective, all in an academic setting. I believe many of our listeners will be excited to learn about a field that they may have overlooked.”
