The Forget Me Not Project

Raleigh, NC, January 22, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Garrett Davis’ play with a purpose

Playwright Garrett Davis has been writing and performing in his stage productions for over sixteen years. On January 25, 2011 at the North Carolina State capital in Raleigh he will announce the launch of a national Alzheimer awareness initiative beginning here in North Carolina, known as the “Forget Me Not” Project.

The tag line following one of his titles is always, “bringing real life situations to the stage.” One of Davis’ plays adds more meaning than ever to his tag line now that his production, “Forget Me Not” is a part of a national Alzheimer awareness project. Davis’ play tells the story of a family’s enduring love when caring for someone with Alzheimer’s disease and to show the symptoms that are often overlooked or ignored within the humorously heartfelt dialogue.

Davis wrote the play over three years ago as a tribute to his grandmother and the family members that provided her care. He did a short run of performances locally and put it on the shelf for safe keeping.

Earlier last year, Davis became more aware of the devastating effects of this disease and the projected increase of occurrences because there still is no cure. He also knows first-hand how the disease impacts the family of the loved one with the disease, therefore Davis took his work off the shelf and for the past several months has been working with his team to develop a comprehensive awareness campaign called.

“The Forget Me Not Project” to use the stage as one of the platforms to raise awareness about AD with the intent to move his patrons to action in the form of early testing, participating in a study or clinical trial, as well as to take advantage of resources available to caregivers.

The “Forget Me Not Project” is a collaboration of celebrity talent sharing their personal stories about how AD has affected their families, along with a powerful nationwide tour presenting valuable information about Alzheimer’s disease in health fairs and workshops, complimented with a presentation of the play and concluding with a star-studded gala event in appreciation to family caregivers and care providers, featuring Ruben Studdard’s original song, “I Know It’s You”, written especially for this play, American Idol finalist Scott Savol , R&B artists Tony Terry and gospel artist, Melvin Williams, actress, Bernadette Stanis from the TV hit sitcom, “Good Times”, Bobbie Baker from “Madea Goes to Jail”. The project is a 2-day event being held in cities across the country to include, Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, Philadelphia, Norfolk, Nashville, Washington DC, Atlanta, Dallas and Miami.
