Compass to Care Childhood Cancer Foundation Partners with Angel Flight Central

Together the organizations will help children fly to distant medical centers for cancer care.

Chicago, IL, March 23, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Compass to Care, The Mike & Sandy Ernsdorff Childhood Cancer Foundation and Angel Flight Central announced today a partnership to serve children with cancer who must travel to receive treatment.

Compass to Care’s mission is to schedule and pay for the travel arrangements families require to seek cancer care for their child. Often, these arrangements include flights to medical centers that are not within driving distance. Angel Flight Central is dedicated to removing the burdens of arranging long-distance transportation at times of personal and community crisis via its free of charge flights. Collectively, these organizations are determined to help relieve families of travel burdens that can become too costly and complicated when a child is undergoing cancer treatment.

According to the National Institute of Health, cancer is still relatively rare for children. On average, 1 to 2 children develop the disease each year for every 10,000 children in the United States. Therefore, children need to be treated in medical centers that specialize in pediatric oncology, necessitating travel of greater than 60 miles from home for many families. This partnership between Compass to Care and Angel Flight Central will enable Compass to Care to assist more families who are traveling longer distances between their homes and the medical center.

“We are so excited to have formed such a valuable relationship with Angel Flight Central,” commented Michelle Ernsdorff, founder and CEO of Compass to Care. “Many of the families we serve cannot drive to the medical center where their child is being treated for cancer. Angel Flight Central’s generous pilots will fly these children and their families to their destination, while our organization will schedule and pay for the rest of their travel needs, including meals, lodging and ground transportation. This is a perfect partnership that truly provides travel relief at a time when these families need it most,” Ernsdorff concluded.

“This is a wonderful partnership for both organizations,” commented Don Sumple, CEO and executive director for Angel Flight Central. “Angel Flight Central’s goal is the same as Compass to Care’s, helping those in need acquire the life saving treatment that they so desperately need. The combination of the two organizations will certainly provide children with this opportunity while helping alleviate financial burdens on the families,” he added.

Both Compass to Care and Angel Flight Central rely on donations to support families in need. For more information on how to support Compass to Care visit www.compasstocare.org. For more information on how to support Angel Flight Central, visit www.angelflightcentral.org.
