Preserving California’s History

Tuolumne, CA, February 23, 2007 --(PR.com)-- The West Side Lumber Company operated in Tuolumne, California for over 60 years. It was the last narrow gauge logging operation in the West. The history of this railroad will soon be lost if something is not done to protect it. The structures once used as the car shops will soon be destroyed and replaced by a golf course. Along with the structures are several pieces of narrow gauge equipment and artifacts once used by the railroad that will be scrapped if something is not done to save them.

West Side Narrow Gauge Railway Preservation is a group of volunteers headed by Michael Azzarello to preserve what is left of this once popular railroad. Their goal is to preserve the remaining equipment and history of West Side and display these artifacts in a new museum. Plans are currently underway to present a proposal to the Tuolumne Economic Development Authority (TEDA) to Preserve this important piece of California’s History.
