Services Group of America Sets up Minot Associate Recovery Fund

The parent company of the only operating foodservice distributor in Minot, N.D., has set up a disaster recovery fund for its Associates affected by the record flooding there.

Minot, ND, July 13, 2011 --(PR.com)-- A disaster recovery fund for Food Services of America (FSA) employees affected by the recent Minot, N.D., flood has been set up by parent company Services Group of America.

According to Peter Smith, President & CEO, the fund will deliver additional assistance above and beyond the aid currently being provided by the company.

“We’ve been inundated with requests from our generous Associates within our companies to send money and needed items to our fellow co-workers,” he said. “We have set up an account dedicated toward that objective with 100% of the contributions flowing to Minot Associates and their families to help with living expenses and disaster recovery.”

Associates worked relentlessly to keep the company’s distribution center open throughout the flood to support the local governmental and community agencies which are tasked with feeding displaced citizens, National Guard members and community volunteers. A number of Associates suffered flooded houses and were displaced themselves even as they continued to work to keep the facility open.

Food Services of America has been bringing in Associates from other distribution centers to help provide manpower as well as donating equipment to the community, particularly refrigerated trucks for secure and temperature-controlled food storage for organizations like the Salvation Army.

More than 4,100 homes as well as thousands of businesses have been flooded in the area. Thousands have been displaced. The Salvation Army estimates that it is feeding about 1,200 to 1,400 people per day and further providing services and support to about 22,000 to 23,000 people per day.

Food Services of America is one of the nation's largest broadline foodservice distributors serving customers in 15 western and mid-western states from nine regional distribution centers. One of those distribution centers is located in Minot. Nearby distribution centers are located in Fargo and Billings.

Services Group of America, the parent company of FSA, is a diversified company specializing in food services with companies such as Systems Services of America, Amerifresh, Ameristar Meats, GAMPAC, Development Services of America and Event Services of America.
