Wilmington Orthopaedic Group Physician David Rockwell, MD Receives 2011 Honored Surgeon Award

Wilmington Orthopaedic Group's physician, David Rockwell, MD, receives the North Carolina Orthopaedic Association's 2011 Honored Surgeon Award.

Wilmington, NC, October 26, 2011 --(PR.com)-- The North Carolina Orthopaedic Association (NCOA) awarded its 2011 Honored Surgeon Award to David Rockwell, MD, who is a physician with Wilmington Orthopaedic Group.

The award was presented to Dr. Rockwell at the NCOA 2011 Annual Meeting on October 8, at Kiawah Island Golf Resort in Kiawah Island, South Carolina. The Honored Surgeon Award recognizes a North Carolina orthopaedic surgeon who has been notably influential in the promotion of the highest standards of orthopaedic care and has distinguished himself among his peers for dedication to quality patient care and to the medical profession. Two of Wilmington Orthopaedic Groupʼs founding physicians, James D. Hundley, MD, and Charles L. Nance, MD, were previous recipients of the award.

Dr. Rockwell received his undergraduate and medical degrees from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he was a Morehead Scholar. He completed his postgraduate training and orthopaedic surgical residency at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia. For over 30 years he practiced community orthopaedic surgery with Goldsboro Orthopaedic Associates. He was a past president of the NCOA. In 2011 he relocated to the Wilmington area where he joined Wilmington Orthopaedic Group providing office based orthopaedic patient care.

As a mentor and leader, Dr. Rockwell has influenced many medical students, resident physicians and orthopaedic colleagues. “We join the medical community in congratulating Dr. Rockwell on this high honor,” said Steve DeBiasi, practice administrator for Wilmington Orthopaedic Group.
