Student Athletes Taught Money Management Skills at Regional Conference

Baltimore, MD, April 06, 2012 --(PR.com)-- On Tuesday May 1, 2012 over 650 high school athletes and coaches from the Baltimore Metropolitan area will come together for the annual St. Joseph Medical Center's POWERED BY ME!, PLAYING SAFE, FAIR AND SOBER conference. A new and unique addition to the traditional workshops being offered to the student athletes will be a special session on "Money Management." This workshop will be conducted by Pamela Gilmour of Financial Fitness of Towson, Maryland. Ms. Gilmour will be teaching these high school athletes about the basic skills of money management including savings accounts, credit cards, budgeting, and taxes. In addition since many of these athletes will be moving on to the college level, Ms. Gilmour will discuss the NCAA guidelines and policies regarding financial aid and the acceptance of gifts. "We feel it is very important for these high school athletes to learn about the basics of money management whether they move on to play college sports or move into the workforce," said Mike Gimbel, Director of Powered by Me!. "To my knowledge this is the first time such a workshop is being provided to high school athletes."

The Powered by Me! Student Athlete Conference will be held on Tuesday May 1, 2012 at the Baltimore Crown Plaza Hotel in Timonium from 8:30am - 2:00pm. The workshops will begin at 10:00am. For more information contact: Pamela Gilmour at (410) 929-7250.
