America’s First Purple Corn Tortilla Chips Gain Mainstream Attention

Innovative Mystic Harvest snacks arrive at Costco.

South Beloit, IL, March 01, 2013 --(PR.com)-- Mystic Harvest (www.mysticharvest.com), the only snack food brand to feature tortilla chips made from antioxidant-rich purple corn, has found its biggest supporter yet. Warehouse giant, Costco (www.costco.com), has started carrying 23-ounce bags of Mystic Harvest Multi Grain Purple Corn Tortilla Chips and early numbers show this snack-with-benefits is already a hit.

A special process created by Axium Foods (www.axiumfoods.com), Mystic Harvest’s parent company, ensures as many of the corns’ antioxidants as possible make it through to the final product. It’s thanks to Suntava Purple Corn (www.suntavapurplecorn.com) that the antioxidants in Mystic Harvest Purple Corn Tortilla Chips come naturally. Suntava purple corn is a proprietary line of corn and is also certified non-GMO, another growing buzz-word in the food industry.

Better-for-you snacks are becoming increasingly popular. According to a recent study done by SymphonyIRI Group, 87% of consumers are trying to eat healthier. On top of that, their research shows that 60% of consumers are seeking snacks that offer benefits beyond basic nutrition.

But of course, consumers also want a snack that tastes great. “We created Mystic Harvest Purple Corn Tortilla Chips to bring health benefits to consumers without sacrificing an ounce of taste,” said Jerry Stokely, president of Axium Foods.

Mystic Harvest teamed up with Costco to conduct taste demonstrations on Friday, February 1st, followed by a second round of tastings on Friday, February 15th. Additional March demonstrations are being planned now, for shoppers looking to get a taste of this innovative treat.

Mystic Harvest Multi Grain Purple Corn Tortilla Chips are currently available at Costco stores in the Midwest region, including Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio and Wisconsin.
