New Therapy Practice Offers Couples Alternative to Costly, Lengthy Counseling Sessions

Mark Jacobson, M.S., Registered Marriage and Family Therapist Intern, offers Fort Lauderdale, Fla couples unique Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT): Focuses on solutions rather than problems, in fewer sessions that traditional forms of therapy.

Fort Lauderdale, FL, March 02, 2013 --(PR.com)-- Registered Marriage and Family Therapist Intern Mark Jacobson, M.S frequently asks new couples counseling clients, “Would you like to improve your relationship so you can argue less, communicate better, be less angry, be a better parent, or just be happier?" And invariably, the answer is a resounding, “Yes!”

Trained in systemic family therapy approaches and a graduate of Nova Southeastern University’s Marriage and Family Therapy program, Jacobson practices what’s known as Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), which research suggests has the potential to create lasting, positive change in a relationship in just a few sessions compared to other traditional forms of therapy—typically fewer than ten.

He explains: “By identifying strengths and resources my clients may not have been aware that they had, SFBT allows them to leverage those strengths into practical, everyday solutions they can use as soon as they leave my office. The approach appeals to me, and to my clients, because it’s very practical. And effective.”

Using the therapeutic tools and techniques he’s been trained in, and incorporating his own empathy, warmth, curiosity and sense of humor into the couples counseling process, Jacobson says that he works with clients to create a vision of their future without their relationship problems, and take steps to make it a reality. And by addressing the problem, but focusing on solutions, therapy is by its nature more rapid and efficient.

As for the cost of counseling, Jacobson adds, “since I’m a Registered Marriage and Family Therapist Intern, I’m able to charge affordable fees, so my clients’ ability to pay won’t be an obstacle to our doing couples counseling together.”

The new therapy practice is located in east Fort Lauderdale, at the offices of Wayne Brown, LCSW, CAP, CHT, who supervises Jacobson on-site. One-hour sessions are available by appointment on weekday evenings and on Saturdays, appealing to working couples.
