Text messaging is not used widely in the Catholic church as it has relied on more traditional methods of outreach like the Sunday bulletin available at Mass. However during Pope Emeritus Benedict's service, he encouraged church leaders to embrace technology as a modern day evangelism tool.
The program is simple for parishes to implement. Parishioners and interested prospects use their cell/smart phone to ask that announcements, Gospel messages and other church related news be delivered right to their mobile device. For parishes, it takes a few minutes to send messages that are read by nearly 100% of those that receive it.
The Holy Catholic Church has had its difficulties the last number of years and is in need of a rebranding as they would call it in the advertising agency world. Text messaging allows parishes to "rebrand" by communicating its message quickly and inexpensively.
