SmartGridiX Accelerating Smart Grid 2.0; Innovative Online Platform Facilitates Collaboration Among Smart Grid Professionals

Menlo Park, CA, March 23, 2013 --(PR.com)-- SmartGridiX (SGiX), an alliance of professionals working together to accelerate the adoption of Smart Grid 2.0 systems within our electricity, gas and water infrastructures (iX), today announced the launch of its new website at www.SmartGridiX.com. The SGiX website will provide industry professionals with curated information, tools and an online platform for collaboration — all intended to address the questions, challenges and issues that are currently impeding deployment of the Smart Grid, and to generate viable business cases.

“During my 30 years in the Power industry, I have witnessed, with mounting frustration, repeated business miscues in regard to the Smart Grid,” said SmartGridiX CEO, Founder and SGiX Managing Editor Dr. Dom Geraghty. “Observing the emergence of the extraordinary power of Web 2.0 to bring collaboration to bear on difficult business problems, and knowing the vast resource of experts and information already existing in the Smart Grid sector, it seemed that an obvious solution to the gridlock would be the development of an online platform where we could all work together toward our common goal to deploy the Smart Grid, not only in my own area of expertise — electricity — but also in our natural gas and water infrastructures.”

Dr. Geraghty has worked with other experts to develop a preliminary list of business opportunities that could benefit from the collective intelligence and collaboration of the Smart Grid community. Analyses of the first two of these -- Smart Grid Gridlock, and The Costs of a Successful Cyber-Security Attack on a Regional Power System -- are presented on the SGiX website as “dialogs” to inaugurate the collaborative effort. Other upcoming business case topics are listed on SmartGridiX.com.

“I’ve talked with many colleagues in the Smart Grid sector who have similar concerns about the weaknesses, to date, in business cases for Smart Grid applications, and the consequent failure to deliver the full benefits that were originally promised,” said Dr. Geraghty. “I founded SGiX as a call to all stakeholders with an interest in the Smart Grid to leverage the wealth of knowledge and experience that has already been developed, at considerable cost, in a concerted effort to extract all of the benefits from the Smart Grid infrastructure and Smart Grid applications being deployed.”

In order to foster participation by the Smart Grid community, access to and participation in SGiX will be made available free to industry professionals, for an initial time period. The site will ultimately become membership-supported and industry-sponsored.

All information contributed to or created by the collaboration of participants on the SGiX public site will be available free to the public under a Creative Commons license.
