Chabad Beaches to Honor Holocaust Survivor at 10th Annual Dinner

Chabad at the Beaches Presents 10th Annual Gala Dinner, honoring a Holocaust survivor as well as several community leaders.

Ponte Vedra Beach, FL, April 13, 2013 --(PR.com)-- A capacity crowd is expected at The Ponte Vedra Concert Hall, on Sunday, June 2nd at 4:30 PM.

On Sunday, June 2nd, Chabad at the Beaches will be celebrating its tenth year of commitment to Jewish life in the Jacksonville and Ponte Vedra Beaches community with its annual Gala Dinner and Celebration. This year, they will be honoring Dr. David Weiss, Mrs. Rivkah Ben Simon and Mr. Yaakov Starr. All of our honorees have made great contributions to the Beaches Jewish community through both sweat and spirit. As they honor their longtime friends and supporters, they also take time to reflect on another year of spiritual growth in the community.

The evening will feature a delectable four course dinner. At Chabad @ the Beaches, they are taking their annual dinner to another level with Mentalist Mark Stone. Mark Stone is one of the most sought after entertainers in the country, and his jaw-dropping ESP and mind-reading show has amazed audiences on land and sea and left them begging to know just how he does it. Mark has appeared on TV on many occasions. He amazed Johnny Carson, Oprah, Regis Philbin, Chevy Chase, and Maury Povich, among many others.

Also during the dinner, Chabad will host its second annual Chinese and silent auctions. There will be raffles for tickets to the Masters Tournament and the Grammys as well as jewelry, cameras, trips to Cancun, Disney Passes and a host of other prizes being auctioned off.

The dinner will highlight the vast educational and social work of Chabad around the world in general and Chabad in Jacksonville and Chabad @ the Beaches in particular, which is testimony to the vision, passion, and leadership of the Lubavitcher Rebbe. In Florida alone there are 168 Chabad institutions, 7 of which are in the Jacksonville area. This year 10,000 children attended Chabad's 10 schools, 37 preschools, 45 Hebrew Schools, and 21 summer camps in Florida.

Mr. Yaakov Starr will receive the community service award. Mr. Starr was born in Hungary, during World War II. Mr. Starr was imprisoned in the notorious Auschwitz concentration camp. Mr. Starr made his way to Israel after the war where he fought to found the state of Israel. Mr. Starr migrated to the United States in the 1950’s where he worked as a baker in Miami beach. His gentle demeanor, his kindness and joy with simple things are the most incredible inspiration to all those that know him.

Rivkah BenSimon will receive the Aishet Chayil (Woman of Valor) Award for her outstanding dedication to her family and community. Rivkah has been an asset to her family and the community with an outstanding dedication to Jewish values. With her legendary volunteerism, warmth and friendship Rivkah is a true Aishet Chayil.

It is with great pride that they will present Dr. David Weiss with the Chesed Award. David, a very gifted pediatrician, has quietly made his impact on numerous people's lives. Along with his lovely wife, Grace, he uplifts those around him with his generosity of spirit, contagious optimism and dignified persona. Chesed is one of the most cherished Jewish values. Its English translation, ‘kindness’ does not do it justice. Chesed is kindness done truly from the heart and in a manner that the recipient, too, feels dignified. David exemplifies this attribute.

Chabad at the Beaches is currently gathering greetings and well wishes from friends and associates of Mr. Starr, Dr. Weiss, and Mrs. BenSimon, and Chabad @ the Beaches (to honor Chabad’s tenth anniversary) for our dinner journal.

It is their annual that provides much of the funds necessary to maintain their programs. Thank you in advance for keeping Chabad at the Beaches in mind with your early response.

The event will be held at the Ponte Vedra Concert Hall, 1050 A1A North, Ponte Vedra Beach on Sunday, June 2nd at 4:30 PM.
