Jim Dodson Law Attends All Children’s Hospital’s Luncheon and Awards Ceremony

St. Petersburg, FL, July 03, 2013 --(PR.com)-- Jim Dodson Law attended All Children’s Hospital’s 20th Annual Safe Routes to School (SRTS) Luncheon and Award Ceremony on Wed., June 26, 2013 in St. Petersburg. Kate Carr, keynote speaker and CEO of Safe Kids Worldwide, told attendees present they were there to honor the heroic acts of others, acknowledge the strides already made in the prevention of unintentional injuries to children and to be reminded there is more work yet to be done in this endeavor.

Carr shared the tragic story of a little girl who was accidentally left by her father in the backseat of car and died of heatstroke. Carr stressed how unintentional injuries can happen even by the most caring and responsible parents. She said together with All Children’s Hospital and a coalition of other global organizations, Safe Kids Worldwide’s commitment to the mission continues - to provide parents and caregivers with practical and proven resources to protect children from unintentional injuries.

One of the highlights of the afternoon program was the awards program that recognized the brave and heroic efforts of several local residents. Included were two elementary school students, whose quick actions in separate incidents saved other children from drowning.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), unintentional injuries are the leading cause of death among children and adolescents in the U.S. - led by motor vehicle- traffic related deaths. CDC defines unintentional injuries as those which “are predictable and preventable when proper safety precautions are taken – they are not “accidents.”

“Child injury is an area we at Jim Dodson Law strive to raise public awareness of before the worst happens. We are pleased to be able to partner with All Children’s Hospital to offer resources to teach children and families about child safety and injury prevention. I’d like to acknowledge the quick thinking on the part of the young people recognized today for their amazing acts of heroism,” said safety advocate and Clearwater personal injury attorney, Jim Dodson.
