Long Island, NY, August 24, 2013 --(PR.com)-- The Maurer Foundation, a Long Island-based non-profit dedicated to breast health education, is collaborating with the Athleta fitness apparel store in Manhasset, NY for a "Ladies Night Out" fundraiser to benefit the foundation's programs. The event, scheduled for September 10, 2013, 6:30-8:30 pm, will offer guests the opportunity to shop and mingle while celebrating, inspiring and supporting the health of women.

Athleta, owned by GAP, Inc., is a quality brand for female athletes of all ages, whether their activity of choice is running, swimming, biking, yoga, Pilates or other sport. The store will donate 10% of all sales made during the fundraiser to The Maurer Foundation, which will benefit thousands of people by supporting breast health education programs.

As exercise is an important factor in helping to reduce the risk of breast cancer, Athleta's focus on fitness goes hand-in-hand with the Foundation's efforts to inform women about ways they can help prevent breast cancer by making positive lifestyle choices. The foundation emphasizes the point that just 30 minutes of moderate physical activity per day can help decrease a person's body fat percentage and the amount of estrogen in their body, while also strengthening the immune system and increasing the body's ability to recognize and eliminate early cancer cells. This event is the perfect opportunity to find the right gear for building a healthy body while making a difference in others' lives as well.

"Ladies Night Out" at Athleta will feature shopping, with the assistance of Athleta Performance Stylists, including a special preview of the company's new Fall 2013 collection. Complimentary chair massages will be offered courtesy of Equinox health club and refreshments, light snacks, raffles and giveaways will be included among the event's highlights. Those interested in donating may also make a $20 contribution in exchange for raffle tickets.

All donations from this event will help fund The Maurer Foundation's educational programs that are presented for free to communities, businesses, schools and various other groups. The workshops teach valuable information about breast cancer prevention and early detection, focusing on risk factors, dispelling myths, and explaining how to conduct breast self-exams and when to schedule mammograms. The Foundation welcomes all inquiries regarding programs—request a program today.

Athleta is located at 1950 Northern Boulevard in Manhasset.
