Window System with Polycarbonate Sheet from Bayer MaterialScience Contributes to 25 Percent Reduction in Heating Load at Reno High School

Makrolon® polycarbonate sheet and Versatile WindowTM system increases energy efficiency and improves daylighting and functionality for school facilities.

Philadelphia, PA, November 25, 2013 --(PR.com)-- School maintenance managers and officials seek replacement windows that improve energy performance and classroom comfort yet match the original building design. Winco Windows’ Versatile Window™ with polycarbonate sheet from Bayer MaterialScience LLC offers an ideal solution that meets these needs within the financial constraints of a municipal budget.

The window system, recently installed at Reno High School in Reno, Nev., offered a number of advantages including reducing heating load by as much as 25 percent, according to school officials.

“In addition to the significant reduction in heating costs, the Versatile Window™ system with Makrolon® multi UV and 15 polycarbonate sheet provided superior light transmission along with an integral blind attachment, enabling us to remove shading devices such as awnings,” said Tony McMillen, construction and project manager director for the school district. “Our teachers and students love the ability to fine-tune their learning environments: opening windows for fresh air as needed, closing windows to block outside noise, darkening the classroom by closing the blinds for smart-board technology and brightening the classroom for testing and group work. Most importantly, the Versatile WindowTM met these needs in the face of our tight budget.”

Additionally, the inherent visual quality of the Makrolon® multi UV sheet provided a finished look that matched the original glass block architectural aesthetic that was replaced – an important benefit for Washoe County School District officials.

Attendees at the Greenbuild International Conference and Expo visited Bayer’s booth (#2407) to learn more about the benefits of Makrolon® polycarbonate sheet for sustainable building and construction. As a global leader in the development and manufacture of advanced materials for industry, Bayer demonstrates leadership through advancement of health, safety and environmental awareness initiatives, and through development and adoption of best practices for the transportation, storage, handling and disposal of these materials.
