)-- Bachmanns Pools and Spas of Madison, WI is proud to participate in American Diabetes Month. Bachmanns by publishing “Three Ways to Spot the Danger Signals and Control Diabetes.”
“Diabetes is a dangerous disease, but it is becoming so prevalent that people are sometimes forgetting how serious it is,” says Fred Bachman, President of Bachmann Pools and Spas.
“Diabetes increases the likelihood of strokes, high blood pressure and heart disease and is the leading cause of new instances of blindness in adults,” continued Bachmann. Here are three ways to spot the danger signals of diabetes and control the disease.
Knowledge is Power - Get started now and find out what the risk factors for diabetes are and if anyone in the family is in danger. Diabetes is prevalent in families, so if a sibling, parent or grandparent has it, chances are other members of the family are at serious risk. That doesn’t mean that if someone else in the family has it, everyone will get it. What it does mean is that those people need to take every precaution against the disease and begin to follow a healthy plan of eating and exercising.
Find Others for Support - Whether someone in the family has diabetes already or there is a need to prevent the possibilities of the disease, the family doctor is a great place to start. Not only can a physician give everyone in the family a more accurate check for blood glucose levels and evaluate the health aspects of their lifestyle, a doctor can also point out support groups, nutritionists and other helpful resources for those who wish to take a defensive stance against the disease.
Get the Best Tools - Develop a healthy atmosphere in the home for the best opportunities to fight off diabetes. This includes making sure there are always healthy foods to eat, and plenty of choices for activities that everyone will enjoy. One tool that the whole family can use and benefit from is a hot tub.
Not only is a hot tub a great source of comfort for tired, achy bodies at the end of a long day, it is a great tool for fighting diabetes. In a study published in the New England Journal of Medicine, hot tub therapy has been shown to reduce blood pressure, a major concern for those with diabetes.
Lowered blood pressure also decreases the amount of glucose in the system. Another study by Dr. Philip L. Hooper from the McKee Medical Center in Loveland, Colorado showed that soaking in a hot tub lowered blood sugar levels by as much as 13 percent, and allowed several patients to reduce the amount of medication required.
Another benefit of a hot tub is that for many overweight diabetics, or pre-diabetics, exercise is a tremendous strain on the joints and muscles. The buoyant waters of a hot tub allow for a very low impact aerobic atmosphere, and even when movement is not recommended, a study by Bruce E. Becker, M.D., provided proof that simply sitting in the regulated temperatures of a hot tub aided in cardiovascular health and circulation.
