Broken Icon Comics Signs Flagship Comic Book, Sevara

Sevara issue 0 will be published by Broken Icon Comics in 2015. Their Kickstarter campaign launches January 26, 2014. This original concept is unique in comic books. Sevara is a goddess whose memories have corrupted humanity. She must save the world from the demons of her own mind. The story is inspired by the theological battles such as the crusades, witch hunts, and fundamentalist terror, as Sevara battles an army of believers who use her own thoughts as fuel for their zealous fanaticism.

Washington, DC, January 26, 2014 --(PR.com)-- From writer/photographer Damian Wampler comes a comic book adventure about a shape-shifting goddess whose memories of her mortal life have corrupted the future.

Sevara is not another men-in-tights superhero comic, but rather the story of one immortal woman determined to save the world one person at a time. The story was inspired by historical and contemporary theological conflicts that have divided humanity of thousands of years. Published by Broken Icon Comics, which focuses on cutting edge sci-fi, fantasy, and noir, Sevara exceeds the expectations that comic book fans have come to expect from the fantasy genre. Drawn by Andre Siragar and Anang Setyawan, the team is confident that their Kickstarter campaign will yield one of the hottest comics of the year.

"I came up with the idea of Sevara while sitting in a religion class, thinking about what Jesus and other prophets would think of how humanity had interpreted their words," said Delaware native Damian Wampler, "but I originally wrote the story as a play. The visual aspects of the story however worked better as a comic book, so I adapted it and found artist Andre Siregar to bring it to life."

Sevara will ultimately be published as a 62 page graphic novel by Broken Icon Comics in the spring of 2015. Broken Icon will publish a 22-page single-issue preview however, called Sevara issue #0, in the summer of 2014 to introduce the character to readers. Inspired by the real life ecological, religious, and gender issues that are in the forefront of news and society, Sevara is at the core an epic science-fiction fantasy that takes spans thousands of years of human history.

Sevara focuses on strong female characters, ideological struggle, and environmental degradation "that takes science fiction and fantasy to new limits. The world seems familiar at first, but the story goes down unexpected avenues of excitement and mystery as it explores deep human truths of power and poverty, peace and violence, life and death."

Sevara was created by Damian Wampler, and drawn by emerging Indonesian artist Andre Siragar. The vivid colors are by Anang Setyawan, and the letters are by Steve Wands (American Vampire). Broken Icon Comics editors Rebecca Null and Rob Dumo oversee the creative process to ensure that the book meets industry standards.

To fund Sevara issue #0, the creative team is looking to raise $3,00 through their Kickstarter campaign. In issue #0, Sevara allows herself to be captured in order to find the secret fortress of her nemesis Mitan. Mitan overpowers her however, and Sevara must battle for her life in order to rescue the last of her followers. A stretch goal of $7,000 would allow the team to pay for the entire graphic novel.

The creative team will produce three issues of Sevara over the course of 7 months. All the art will be completed no later than August 1, 2014. 1/3rd of issue #0 is already completed, and the issue will be available at comic book conventions starting May 2014. The entire graphic novel will be available online and at comic book stores in the spring of 2015.

Rewards will include not just copies of the comic book, posters, T-shirts and trading cards, but some more unique opportunities as well. Damian will offer comic book script reviews of aspiring writers, query letter critiques for creatives who are looking for a publisher, and even the opportunity for one person to be the honorary-co editor of Sevara. This will provide one person with an inside look into the comic book production and distribution process. There will also be one 11x17 Sevara pin-up by Game of Thrones comic book artist Tommy Patterson. The most tempting reward is perhaps the sterling silver reptile bangle by world-renowned sculptor Patrick Mavros, available only through the Sevara Kickstarter campaign.

Fans of Broken Icon Comics, fantasy, and high-concept science-fiction can support this endeavor here on Kickstarter. The campaign will be active for 30 days, ending February 26 at midnight.
