PIH Health Receives Healthgrades Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence
Whittier, CA, January 23, 2014 --(PR.com
)-- PIH Health has received the Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence™ for the fourth consecutive year according to Healthgrades, a leading online resource for comprehensive information about physicians and hospitals. The distinction places PIH Health among the top 5% of the more than 4,500 hospitals nationwide for its clinical performance and solidifies PIH Health as one of the nation’s best healthcare facilities.
“This award demonstrates the commitment and collaboration of our physicians, nurses, clinicians and employees of our integrated delivery system to provide comprehensive, quality care,” said PIH Health President and Chief Executive Officer James R. West. “This honor reinforces that we focus on providing the best clinical outcomes and are ultimately doing the right thing for the communities we serve.”
Not all hospitals eligible for the distinction meet the final requirements. For example, in the Los Angeles, CA metropolitan area, there were 16 hospitals out of 38 eligible hospitals (42.1%) recognized as Distinguished Hospital for Clinical Excellence award recipients, placing them among top 5% of hospitals nationwide. PIH Health is among the hospitals in the Los Angeles, CA metropolitan area with some of the best quality care across at least 21 of 30 common inpatient conditions and procedures evaluated by Healthgrades.
“Recipients of the Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence have demonstrated better than expected quality care. For patients undergoing treatment for select common conditions and procedures at these hospitals, this translates to a statistically significant lower likelihood of death or experiencing complications when compared to the rest of American hospitals,” said Evan Marks, EVP, Informatics and Strategy, Healthgrades.
For overall clinical excellence, last year, Healthgrades also recognized PIH Health with the Outstanding Patient Experience Award and among the Top 10% in the Nation for Outstanding Patient Experience.
“The Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence is an indicator that we are effectively implementing best practices, continuously monitoring and making patient satisfaction a priority, as we strive to continuously improve clinical performance and to achieve excellent outcomes for our patients,” said PIH Health Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Officer Rosalio Lopez MD MBA.
The 260 recipients of the Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence™ stand out among the rest for overall clinical excellence across a broad spectrum of care. During the 2014 study period (2010-2012), these hospitals showed superior performance in clinical outcomes for patients in the Medicare population across at least 21 of 30 of the most common inpatient conditions and procedures —as measured by objective performance data (risk-adjusted mortality and in-hospital complications).
