Westalke Village, CA, January 31, 2014 --(PR.com)-- Murdock asks other community leaders to pledge their support

David H. Murdock, owner of Dole Food Company, pledged $10 million to begin construction of the Triunfo YMCA facility at the new Westlake Village Park/YMCA site on Thousand Oaks Blvd., west of Lindero Canyon Rd. Previously, Dole donated $1 million and Murdock personally donated $1 million to begin the architectural design process.

“This project is truly a community partnership,” says Ronnie Stone, executive director of the Triunfo Y. “The City of Westlake Village recently completed site development. Mr. Murdock provided design and architectural drawings and now the funds needed to start construction.” Additional funding for the project secured by the City and the Y totals $6.7 million to date.

Murdock, area businessman and philanthropist, has a long history supporting projects that enhance health and well-being. His Four Seasons hotel in Westlake Village is well known for its state of the art spa, including health and wellness services. “This project will increase opportunities for our community to be physically active and improve fitness and overall well-being, a cause I’ve been committed to for over 30 years,” says Murdock. Murdock hopes other community business leaders will follow his lead to provide the balance of the funding needed to complete the project.

“I’m grateful for Mr. Murdock’s leadership in all areas of the project,” says Stone. “By supporting the Y’s efforts to help children and adults stay healthy and address problems such as childhood obesity, diabetes and heart disease, we will ensure that we remain one of the healthiest and most desirable communities in Southern California.”
