Canterbury Crowned Most Romantic Place in the UK

Postcode Anywhere finds Canterbury buys the most gifts for Valentine’s Day.

Worcester, United Kingdom, February 08, 2014 --(PR.com)-- Canterbury has been named the UK’s most romantic city according to new figures from technology company, Postcode Anywhere.

The software firm found that more people in Canterbury bought presents online in the run up to Valentine’s Day last year than any other place in the UK. London came in second place, followed closely by Birmingham, Reading and Manchester.

On a quest to crown the most romantic places across the nation, Postcode Anywhere, analysed the volume of purchases for flowers, chocolates, lingerie, jewellery, adult gifts and fragrance, across its 8,000 ecommerce customer base.

Among the findings, the research cites how Londoners are more likely to purchase flowers for their partners on Valentine’s Day, consumers from Leeds are more likely to buy chocolate and in Birmingham lingerie proves a popular choice.

The research also dubbed Wolverhampton as the least romantic place in the UK.

Guy Mucklow CEO of Postcode Anywhere said: “Valentine’s Day is now one of the major spending occasions for both UK and US consumers, and one of the major events on the retail shopping calendar.

“This year, Britons are predicted to spend a staggering £978m on their partners on Valentine’s Day so it’s certainly not something retailers can afford to take lightly.”
