New York Food Hub Awarded B Corporation Certification

Headwater Foods, striving to create a sustainable local food economy in upstate New York and the Northeast Region, is the fourth company in Rochester to become a Certified B Corporation.

Rochester, NY, April 03, 2014 --(PR.com)-- Headwater Foods Inc., a Rochester-based organization committed to the development of sustainable and localized food systems, is proud to announce it is has been awarded B Corporation certification. Headwater Foods is the fourth company in Rochester to receive its B Corp certification and joins a growing community of over 950 Certified B Corps from 32 countries and 60 industries working together to redefine the way we do business.

Certified B Corporations must meet rigorous standards of social and environmental performance, accountability and transparency established by the 501(c)3 nonprofit, B Lab. Together, the B Corp community is leading a global movement to solve environmental and social problems through the power of business.

Headwater Foods seeks to build an economy around local food, support local sustainable farmers, create jobs for local urban and rural people and develop our region’s ability to retain more of the wealth spent on food in this area. This holistic approach that brings together the individual, social, economic, and ecological health of our communities and citizens is the foundation supporting all of Headwater Foods’ endeavors.

At its core, Headwater Foods provides access to fresh, healthy, sustainable, and value-filled foods for all people, promoting individual health and food security. The flagship project of Headwater Foods is The Good Food Collective, established in 2009. Taking inspiration from Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) programs around the country, The Good Food Collective offers year-round multi-farm membership programs that connect Rochesterians to local, sustainable foods from some of the best farmers in our area. Similarly, Headwater Foods’ wholesale program, Three Square Kitchen, serves local restaurants, grocery stores and farm-to-school partners in New York and the Northeast Region.
