Headwater Foods seeks to build an economy around local food, support local sustainable farmers, create jobs for local urban and rural people and develop our region’s ability to retain more of the wealth spent on food in this area. This holistic approach that brings together the individual, social, economic, and ecological health of our communities and citizens is the foundation supporting all of Headwater Foods’ endeavors.
At its core, Headwater Foods provides access to fresh, healthy, sustainable, and value-filled foods for all people, promoting individual health and food security. The flagship project of Headwater Foods is The Good Food Collective, established in 2009. Taking inspiration from Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) programs around the country, The Good Food Collective offers year-round multi-farm membership programs that connect Rochesterians to local, sustainable foods from some of the best farmers in our area. Similarly, Headwater Foods’ wholesale program, Three Square Kitchen, serves local restaurants, grocery stores and farm-to-school partners in New York and the Northeast Region.
Headwater Foods strives to live and work by its values of social, environmental and economic health in its efforts to create a sustainable food system. By becoming a part of the B Corp community, it will be encouraged and supported to remain focused on its values. Owner Chris Hartman: “A core component of our project is to be part of creating positive change in our regional food system. We have worked to build an organization based on trust and committed to Good work. We are inspired and proud to work alongside other businesses seeking a high level of social and environmental responsibility as part of doing business and we are grateful to have an honest certifying process to celebrate that!”
Headwater Foods believes the future of business is in social entrepreneurship and is proud to align itself with the goals of the B Corp community and represent Rochester in the global movement to redefine success in business.
