)-- Tokyo-based private fund, Hawk Trade, says it has granted one of its portfolio standouts, Nanotec Industries, an additional tranche of funds to facilitate the final development stages of a new hip replacement joint that will last for the lifetime of the patient.
Artificial joints usually tend to last no more than 10 – 20 years with the most common problem being the surface of the device, which tends to be eroded over time. According to a spokesperson at Nanotec Industries, a new wear-resistant material created using nanotechnology will extend the life of a joint to that of the patient to which It has been fitted.
A Hawk Trade analyst said, “This breakthrough is the culmination of research carried out at a Prague-based university by one of the company’s principals. The new coating will undoubtedly lend itself to innumerable commercial applications in which resistance to wear is of paramount importance.”
The Hawk Trade analyst added, “Nanotec Industries is proving itself to be among the shrewdest investments in our portfolio and we expect them to continue to deliver innovations that have the potential to improve all our lives.”
Hawk Trade, said the additional funds amount to $500,000 and will be provided with immediate effect but did not provide any clarification on when the private equity fund would be looking to recoup existing outlay through an initial public offerings (IPO).
“Nano-coating is expected to make large strides in terms of progress as higher tolerances in machinery and apparatus demand materials that lend themselves to lowering friction coefficients and greater wear resistance,” concluded the Hawk Trade analyst.
